Why We Need More Of The Gospel Of Matthew In Our Lives
Kingdom living looks different than the way the rest of the world lives.
Good morning!
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving for those who celebrate it. My family enjoyed the Thanksgiving Day Parade, watching football, and we all enjoyed the delicious food prepared throughout the day.
One of the best parts was getting to sit and play games at the end of the day and having, multiple generations around the table. It was a really special time and I hope you were able to enjoy that time too!
Today, I wanted to share an exert from my latest book. It launched on Monday and I wanted to be sure to share it with you. I also have a special bonus to the my books that I will share at the end of this post.
This is an exert from my latest devotional on the Gospel of Matthew:
We have seen some of the craziest things in the last few years. Whether it is a political civil war, an actual war in other countries, or the global pandemic, things have been nuts.
In addition to that, I have seen more people change how they live because of outside forces. They want to fit into the 'new normal' or align their lives with what culture tells them is appropriate.
Yet, so many people realize there must be more. Something more significant than a government or social movement. However, many people fall short of the answer because they look in the wrong places. But there is an answer:
When we believe in Jesus, we enter into the Kingdom of God and God's culture.
In our household, my wife and I focus on understanding Kingdom Living. What do we mean? When we enter the Kingdom of God, we are called to live by different standards than the world around us.
This was a new idea for us in the last five years. Before that, our faith was mostly just that, faith. It was something we believed. It was detached from the understanding that we are citizens of heaven and part of God's Kingdom. It was detached from how we lived.
To understand Kingdom Living, we need to know what happens when we enter the Kingdom of God. Furthermore, we need to understand the attributes of God's Kingdom and how they apply to our lives.
What Can We Learn About the Kingdom of God?
Every book of the Bible focuses on Jesus. Even the Old Testament is pointing to Him. And while the Gospel of Matthew is about sharing Jesus with the world, it also teaches something even more significant:
What it means to live in the Kingdom of God.
At times, one of the most challenging things to understand is God's Kingdom. When I talk about the Kingdom of Heaven, God's Kingdom, or the Kingdom of God, I am talking about the same place.
However, there is something fundamental for us to understand about The Kingdom of God. It is the place where God is. Which is both heaven and here on earth.
"…your kingdom come, you will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."—Matthew 6:10
When Jesus teaches the disciples how to pray, he reveals something miraculous: The Kingdom of God is not just in heaven. It is here on earth too.
As we find out in this Gospel, it has been coming to earth for ages, but now, the doors are wide open. And we play a role in bringing the Kingdom of God to earth.
With this devotional, and our focus on the Gospel of Matthew, we’ll get specific insights into how the Kingdom of God works and what our role is when it comes to earth.
